Seems like the most common problem that people are having while using this site is not knowing how to post a block of code. Is there any ability for others to edit their posts? It seems like only Nick and Dave have that ability, and are spending a not insignificant bit of their precious time cleaning up these discussions.
Ideally, there would be a default setting that causes all pasted text (larger than say 1K) to be surrounded by triple-backtics automatically – and if that is not desired, then they could be removed manually.

I agree, I was replying to a post with a bit of code for the first time a few minutes ago and I was searching the icons in the toolbar to find the “code” command then I remembered that this was compatible with markdown (MD) and used the three backticks …
Isn’t it possible to add an icon to the toolbar ?
