# Connecting Node-RED to an Omron PLC

It sounds like you either dont have a broker installed or you have an issue with setup.

Do you have the MQTT function blocks installed on the PLC?

Do you have an MQTT Broker installed on the network or your laptop for the PLC and node-red to connect to?

If you dont know the answer to that, then I suggest you spend 20 mins [learning about MQTT](https://www.google.com/search?q=what+is+mqtt)
