# Error while installing node-red

Hi,

I uninstalled node-red using`sudo npm uninstall -g node-red` and reinstalled it using `sudo npm install -g --unsafe-perm` node-red. I am getting following error while installing.

```

node-pre-gyp ERR! Try to update node-pre-gyp and file an issue if it does not help:

What is the reason for this issue?

Not sure - but it is an optional dependancy so not the end of the world.

Or you could try following the update instructions - [https://github.com/nodejs/node-gyp/wiki/Updating-npm's-bundled-node-gyp](https://github.com/nodejs/node-gyp/wiki/Updating-npm's-bundled-node-gyp)

(shouldn't generally be necessary so what platform / OS are you running on ? )
