# Error while starting new installed Node-red

I have installed Node-Red on a new Ubuntu 16.04.4 LTS on a VM as per the instructions mentioned in this link : [https://diyprojects.io/node-red-installation-configuration-ubuntu-16-04-lts/#.XSbHkW4zZPZ](https://diyprojects.io/node-red-installation-configuration-ubuntu-16-04-lts/#.XSbHkW4zZPZ)

But when I tried to start Node-Red then it gives this attached error

Can anyone suggests what can be the issue and how to resolve this.

Was there anything wrong with official install docs ?  
[https://nodered.org/docs/getting-started/local](https://nodered.org/docs/getting-started/local)  
(especially the first yellow box talking about ubuntu ?)

what version of node.js are you running and which version of npm ?

When I follow the script mentioned in this official install link : [https://nodered.org/docs/getting-started/local](https://nodered.org/docs/getting-started/local) then it starts working fine.

To answer the original question, those errors were caused by using an unsupported version of node.js.
