# Failed install of serial node ...please help

can not successfully install serial node in newest node-red v 1.1.2

`prebuild-install WARN install No prebuilt binaries found (target=14.7.0 runtime=node arch=x64 libc= platform=win32)`
Try downgrading node to v12 and try again.

well the are pre-compiled version based on node12... or you need to compile it which needs gyp which needs python (and the compiler tools) ... so either or.

Either way, as its windows and he may install other nodes that need compiling, I'd suggest the OP installs windows-build-tools
- open a cmd windows (right click, run as administrator)
- `npm install --global windows-build-tools`
- note this can take quite some time (slow machines 30mins or so) - so be patient 🙂
then try again
