And as @bakman2 suggests your version of nodejs is new. The contrib-node you are trying to install is old and they haven’t updated the published node.  
You either need to update the node yourself or you need to contact the author.

I see that dceejay made a request on May21 to have this node updated, to reference the newer i2c library so that it installs on later versions of nodejs.

It has gone unanswered thus far. I cannot find alternative nodes for the NXP pca9685 chip.

From replies 19-21.. You will see how we are instructed to use a forked node (same fork that dceejay wants rolled back into the master) to utilize the PCA9685 Out node... I did it.... and succeeded testing it by dimming an LED with an inexpensive Adafruit board that utilizes that NXP pwm chip... Check out the thread for a work around...
