# How to install Tasmota on an ESP8266

Ok Maybe I missed something you said up to 50 nodes. are they calling log in accounts as a node?

in this instance nodes means devices on the network.... things with ip addresses.

I'm figuring that out. however I do have a lot of devices connected to my network at my MICRO brewery.  
8 esp's 2 tablets 2 laptops 2 printers 1 jukebox, maybe 3 pi's at a time (2 are always prototyping something that im learning before i add to working Pi.  
2 arduinos.........  
but only one thing there really needs to connect to the special network.

Yes only that one counts. It will have an ip address on the internal network and also the tunnel

I figured out how to get my computer connected.  
but im screwing up the install on the pi via putty  
I still struggle with commands in linux

not really sure where this was saved in and how to move it from where ever its in to this location in explanation see pic.

There are a number of products like NGROK. I suggested that because I thought it was the easiest to set up. I'm afraid I didn't have the problems you seem to be having.

Another great alternative - that IS harder to set up but is fantastic - Cloudflare ZeroTrust. That gives you a full remote service including choice of endpoints, detailed security policies (including geoblocking, forced multi-factor, ...) and user logins. Though on the free tier, you are limited to "only" 50 users!! 😸

While rather complex to set up, there are some excellent YouTube videos around to help.

...you should use the router at each site as a zt node.  
Then you just need to adjust routing between sites, using zt network as transfer net.

that would have been a little complex to start with for him - plus i am pretty sure his Comcast router will not let him install packages or flash it to OpenWrt

no need to go too fancy to start with

```auto
curl -s https://install.zerotier.com | sudo bash

```

That will download a script and perform the install for you

Just checked on their website - the free-tier is (now) limited to 25 nodes (I think they mean users or hosts).  
I think in our situation it could be interpreted as Raspberry Pi (servers) running Node-RED.

So that finally loaded correctly on my Pi (i used putty to connect)  
so if my computer had restarted i have to restart zerotier on it correct?

NM, I figured that part out.  
my computer and my pi are connected to ZeroTier,  
however it never asked for a password  
how do I ensure there is one before it lets me look at dashboard or is that not needed?

Perhaps I've been grandfathered in (as befits my age! 😸 ), my account certainly says 50.

I think that it is authenticated users not hosts.

I do also pay for some services (though only DNS) so I don't know if that makes a difference. Actually even 25 is very generous in my view. I was expecting something like 5. It is certainly a very comprehensive feature set for a free tier.
