OK I think I have finally got what you are saying. If an incorrect _linkSource is returned the link call node will ignore it. 
A link call node will never see an incorrect link source. It will only ever get returns from calls that it made.
Colin, thank you for sticking with me, I have finally got it. When I stopped and thought about it it was obvious that the link out node will only reply to the calling link call node.
