I keep getting a "failed to install" error when trying to install this set of 2 nodes from the Palette Manager. Is there a way to do this directly from a command line???

Go to your .node-red folder and run
`npm install node-red-contrib-whatever`
obviously using the name of the node you are trying to install, you haven't told us. It will probably fail, but then post the output here (copy/paste if possible please, not a screenshot). Use the `</>` button and paste it in.

If it is node-red-contrib-midi then probably worth reading this issue against it first. There is a solution there.

**[Edit]** the fact that there has been no support for the last four years suggests that using this node might not be the best route to take.
