I want to move an old NR 4.1.0 to another Pi

So I installed NR on new Pi using standard script with --nodered-version="4.1.0"

I then wiped all the files in new .node-red folder and copied all the old files from old machine (except node\_modules)

Ran npm install on new machine inside .node-red folder

Then typed in node-red but got a whole load of info saying no nodes installed

```auto
Welcome to Node-RED
What have I done wrong?
First check your package.json: run cat ~/.node-red/package.json and see whether it has a "dependencies" section listing your node packages.
If the dependencies are listed, install them automatically: run cd ~/.node-red, then npm install, and watch for errors.
If the section is missing or empty, install manually : cd ~/.node-red, then npm install node-red-contrib-play-audio node-red-node-pi-gpio node-red-node-ping node-red-node-random, adding any other packages from the full warning list.
The easier way is to copy the dependencies block from the old Pi's package.json into the new one, then run npm install.
Are you sure that you were in the right folder when running npm install (and on the right pi, I regularly ssh into the wrong pi when doing that sort of thing)? When you ran npm install it should have said it had installed a number of packages.
Also there seem to be lines missing from the log, which is odd. I would have expected to see the lines stating the paths to settings etc before the missing nodes message.
I hadn't explicitly but its there
```auto
pi@raspberrypi5:~/.node-red $ sudo apt install build-essential

build-essential is already the newest version (12.9).
The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required:
  rpi.gpio-common
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove it.

There is a problem building the npm module mdns. It won't build for me on a pi either. It hasn't been updated for 6 years. I suspect that it is not compatible with python3.

In the .node-red folder what does this command show. It should tell us which node has pulled it in.
`npm list mdns`

I thought you said it was a new pi? There are 431 packages that need upgrading. I would do that first.
`sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade && sudo apt autoremove && sudo apt clean`

I can't say that I follow that. You said that you installed node-red on a new pi, did you not install a new OS on the new pi?

Anyway, see [node-red-node-discovery (node) - Node-RED](https://flows.nodered.org/node/node-red-node-discovery) fo the pre-requisites that are needed for that node. That may help.

I am guessing that you haven't got the pibrella board (whatever that is) plugged in.

After installing the OS you should run the apt update etc command to update the OS with changes introduced since the image was generated. That is what the 431 packages that need upgrading is about.

Aah - I see what you mean - I did get the Pi a while ago and that's when I put the OS on it back then but then didn't use it for anything so that explains situtation 🙂

NR seems to be up and running mainly with just a few issues so will leave it till tomorrow to switch off old Pi and see if new one can (mainly) do all the same tasks

Thanks for all you help 🙂

You were much better than the AI bot account 🙂

and everything I've tried seems to work so far 🙂

My main issue is that the new Pi doesn't let me VNC into it anymore (since I tried apt updating/upgrading)but luckily I'd set up raspberry connect and I can access a terminal shell that way to let me try testing out upgrading NR
