# Node-RED needs a Mascot!

Programming languages and editors used by Enterprises have some type of mascot. Examples: godot, mulesoft, salesforce, rust, java, node. So, can't we have one for Node-RED too? What about its name?
My suggestion for a name:
- Reddie, like Freddie
- Redy, reads like Reddie
- Wiry, from the word wire. It would be read as Wirie
Now as for the mascot design I have no suggestions for now.
Can we run a voting contest to define it?

I really loved the red fox. Very cartoonish and funny, like the ones from SF, and much better than a Mule from Mulesoft. We still need to define its character in a way that it fits with the editor and its users. Why a fox? Which characteristics of a real fox this mascot has and why?
It would be so cool to have the mascot as the default AI buddy face in the editor.

People love mascots. And Node-RED could use it for branding, and to sell products, like t-shirts, hats and hoodies, to fund the project. It can also be used as the llm buddy/asssistant face in the editor. Users can choose any model the want, but inside the editor the mascot's face appears.

My suggestion would be a red cartoon octopus, as an octopus is a very flexible animal, and has tentacles going everywhere, they're also highly intelligent.
Something along the lines of

I don’t want to be the Grinch🫣, but honestly, I don’t see the point of a mascot.
Why would we spend time on that? What’s the actual benefit? Node-RED already has a clear identity with its logo and strong community. A mascot won’t make the tool easier to use or more powerful.
I get the idea—it can make things look fun and help with marketing—but is that worth the effort compared to improving features or docs?

Of all the suggestions made, the only one I vaguely warm to is the flow sloth.
I like it's internal rhyme and the oxymoron of a running sloth.
However it has too many claws and opposable thumbs.
