# Pass Placeholder string via msg to ui\_dropdown

Based on this link [node-red-dashboard/config-fields.md at master · node-red/node-red-dashboard · GitHub](https://github.com/node-red/node-red-dashboard/blob/master/config-fields.md) it should be possible to assign text to placeholder msg.place, but it doesn't work

My end goal is to have dynamic text before selection is done. If I understand it is not possible to pass msg.label

So set `msg.` `ui_control.palace`  
To `"Placeholder"`  
[edit]  
You can also use `{{label}}` in the config label field and send msg.label, or any other msg var you wish.
