@fmarzocca as a test to see if node-red is really being blocked somewhere you could feed the MQTT In node directly into an MQTT Out node configured with a test topic, in addition to feeding the link node. Then monitor the test topic in your python code, or MQTT Explorer and see if that goes at full speed. If it does then node-red is not being blocked.
