Can you tell us which Alexa node you are using as there are quite a few.

The node most people have had success with is... node-red-contrib-alexa-remote2-applestrudel

The nodes I'm using at the moment are the one above and... node-red-contrib-alexa-remote-fork

Has this ever worked or did you just install it ?

Did you follow the instructions [here](https://alexa-node-red.bm.hardill.me.uk/docs) ?

Hi Dave

Sorry, I know it's an old post but I have only just bought an Echo Dot and thought I would give some of the flows here a try. I have searched the library but cannot find the `ip node`. Would you please let me know what it is?

I already track the temperature of my Pi's but I do the identification manually. Automating this seems a GOOD idea. 😉

I think the node I used was...

Great thread. Hope it's still being followed.

I tried to implement the schema using node-red-contrib-alexa-remote2-applestrudel 5.0.50
and Blueprints Q&A skill.

However, I found the following:

- When I ask a question to my custom Blueprint Q&A skill (or for that matter to any other skill), I get back: `alexaResponse: ""`
- When I ask a question that Alexa answers itself (like what time is it), I get back the full string of the response. For example, `alexaResponse: "It's 11:56 PM."`

In both cases, though the summary field captures my _original_ question.
However I would prefer to filter on Alexa's response rather than my initial question which may have multiple phrasings...

Hello - and welcome to the Forum.

A few months back I had problems with getting reliable responses from Alexa, so I went down this route using Virtual Smart Home (VSH) node.

> [@Alexa 'On Device Activity' not working](https://discourse.nodered.org/t/alexa-on-device-activity-not-working/80901/191):
>
> This option has been around for a while in various types. I have used a virtual light, then I can monitor on the same topic, but use 100 different brightness levels for different commands. The main issue with this is it's not room aware, so you cannot have dynamic responses.

Thought this may be worth a look [node-red-contrib-dulonode (node) - Node-RED](https://flows.nodered.org/node/node-red-contrib-dulonode). Posting here as may be of interest to others.

[edit] You will need a North American account to use it as of now. Hopefully the node developer will expand on this in the near future.

I have the same problem where I am so I contacted the developer who replied
"Currently, the skill is available only in the en-US locale. I plan to expand its availability to more regions in the coming weeks."

I believe Dulo is a new offering, and it's good to have choice and competition, so it is also worth noting this is commercial offering similar to -

> **[node-red-contrib-virtual-smart-home](https://flows.nodered.org/node/node-red-contrib-virtual-smart-home)**
>
> A Node-RED node that represents a 'virtual device' which can be controlled via Alexa. Requires the virtual smart home skill to be enabled for your Amazon account.

For comparison -

VSH currently supports more device types

VSH offers 7 free devices of any kind / Dulo offers 3 of only Switch, Light or Thermostat

VSH 200 devices is 12 EUR per year / Dulo is $19.90 (_it doesn't actually state what period so I have asked for clarification)_

EDIT: this is the price per month with Dulo !

~~Dulo does have a 50 device option for $6.90, which may work out cheaper for a lot of people.~~

Hey,

Unfortunately, I can't get the adapter to work as it should. Is there a video showing how to use the adapter?

 ![image](https://us1.discourse-cdn.com/flex026/uploads/nodered/original/3X/0/a/0a60790783dceb2c190d73d08ee2eb2e673e6cb9.png)

The on/off function works, but the dimmer and colors don't work! How can I configure the bathroom module so that it issues the correct commands?
