I have added an item on the backlog to add an option.
As usual, that doesn't automatically mean it'll appear in the next release of Node-RED, but the feedback has been captured and it's there so we don't forget it.

I'm not wanting to be difficult. It is it keeps tripping me up.
Yeah, probably something to do with how I code too. But.....
I am sort of seeing what Steve means about needing to keep/preserve topics.
I guess I just haven't got to needing that case yet.
Maybe my uses of it are too simple, but as I use the node it is at/on a message level only.
Adding the change
node to delete the topic seems to complicate things for no real reason.
Anyway....
Will this change include an option to ignore the topic?

I got caught on not realising the topic
is used also in the comparison and so it was holding me back for a long time.
