No worries, I fully understand.
The nopolling option is now built into the live v6.8 anyway. There are now also functions to turn off and on socket.io connections manually.
If your touch panels use web pages for display, you will probably be interested in v6.8+'s new front-end router library as well. Kiosk style single-page web apps are particularly suited to using FE routers & and being able to drive, potentially an entire organisation's display panels from a single page definition and dynamically controlled from Node-RED is a very powerful option.
