It does seem that you have uncovered a shortcoming in the node, well done.
You should really raise an issue on the node's github page.
Meanwhile, the work-around is to use a location. If as you contend the location doesn't make much difference, it can't do any harm.
The red outline around the location field indicates that the field must be filled in for solar events.
