By way of update, I've now switched from node-red-contrib-chromecast to node-red-contrib-cast which is a fork of the chromecast node, but is currently being actively developed.
A number of new features have been added, such as being able to control the volume level of device, and Google TTS.
Please be aware of this open issue though (which is inherited from the chromecast node).
