I've just released the scratchpad sidebar for storing content between edits.
The aim is to have a persistent store for content between edits. I've been using it for the last year or so and it helps when I've got common edits to make to a bunch of nodes.

The alternative was to use either a third-party editor/notepad to store the content and then switch back and forth or use a kind of "scratch node" (i.e. a template node) for storing the content.
