2 instances of node red

Hi Guys,
I have a version 1.x node red running on a ubuntu box. It uses a signal messenging node which I think won't work under node 2.x (the developer seems to have stopped working on this node).
I'd like to move to node red version 2 for the rest of my flows. (try and keep stuff upto date etc)

Is there a way to install version 2 node red and not touch the old one and run the 2 together on different ports?
Thanks
Chris

You could install a 2nd instance as a local install (rather than global)

Julian's alternative installer can help if you are unfamiliar with NPM etc...

Thanks Steve,
That does sound like the best option, appreciate your response.
Thanks
Chris

It should have everything you need but let me know if you get stuck.
