How ever, if all this is brought on by a bad supply voltage and I change it and the voltage is now good: it is academic.

It was/is a power supply problem.

You keep showing the start of the crash 17:27, the question is, what happened after that? You said it didn't reboot, which is surprising.

I have no idea what might be causing the repeated system time change detected messages in cronplus. Are you using the latest version of that node? If you are then perhaps @Steve-Mcl may be able to suggest something.

I have no idea what might be causing the repeated system time change detected messages in cronplus

Cron plus attempts to detect time change by monitoring the time node js reports. This is to ensure schedules are executed at the right time.

As node js has no way of telling the clock was changed by way of NTP I have to poll the clock at a predetermined interval. If the time is not at the expected value it is assumed the clock has changed.

As I am fairly certain the clock hasn't changed & that points to the other reason for this log message... the node js event queue is not being serviced. That is usually due to heavy processing (blocking the node js thread). It can also happen due to system sleep. I am certain a substantial system hog could also cause the node js event loop to be starved.

Maybe mentioned already in this long thread but other "things" running in the RPi could very well also be guilty for overloading the CPU. So what if any such? Have you investigated and checked?

A lot.

I know it is not good practise to do this, but some things I do aren't exactly supported and so rather than trying to learn JS, I get foreign nodes which kind of do what I need.

Most of this thread is related to TelePi.

It is a RPZ(W).

Its jobs are:

• Control a pomorini (spelling?) LED strip of 8 RGB addressable LEDs.
  They indicate any things needing attention.
• Local scanning of CPU Temperature and load.
• Monitor / ping the router and uplink IP addresses.
• Scan for WiFi network names visible.
• Machine health. (vcgencmd) and its reports are displayed.

There are other pages but they basically do nothing.
Those pages are more interactive and unless poked, do nothing.

All those tasks are done every 30 seconds.

Just checked. AFAIK I am using the supplied ping node as it now allows input of IP addresses / tables.

Before that I use adv ping node. It is still installed but I am not using it.

heartbeat is a signal that is now happening every 30 seconds. I upped it from 20.
I could (maybe) take it away from this machine.

But that becomes swings and round abouts as another machine would have to then take that on.

When you have issues, you need to eliminate possibilities. I think that should be clear by now. If you want to fix your issues, you need to eliminate things.

Next time that happen, if possible then, try to run the command top first to see what process is causing that heavy load on the CPU. Unless you are sure it is NR again (sorry, have not read all in this thread so I do not know what conclusions you have made already)

Yes, I agree.

For the last 15-ish months I have been rather busy with something and have only been at home 2 in 4 weeks and for those 2 had to deal with other things.

Only since about the end of May have I had time to start to dissect the problem/s.

It would seem one machine was suffering power problems. Since put on a new power unit a few weeks back from memory.
Yeah, shame on me.

The other day the next machine has now also had its power supply changed, and I am waiting to see what happens.

There is still a couple of gremlins lurking. They've been mentioned here a couple of times, and I am not sure if it is them or their relatives who have been mentioned in another post of mine regarding subflows and context being wiped.

Believe me, I am also getting lost with what has happened and what has/not been done.

I shall use htop and try to remember to get a screen shot.

Alas the problem with that is that as I have been away for 2 weeks: sometimes the machines would reset for unknown reasons.

Other times, I can't ssh to the machine and had/have to pull the plug on it and do a hard reset.

Only recently have I been here at the right time to catch the crash and have been able to ssh to the machine.

A node that was a SOB to track down causing problems (for me) was node-red-contrib-isonline ...

I am still not sure as to whether it was a bug in the node in general, or whether it was specific to my installation....

Where you have had power problems, it is possible that you have ended up with corrupted files. That can also be a real problem to track down. A new build is recommended.

Please lets use the star feature in the Flows site to mark unreliable nodes as 1-star so that people know not to use them.

Also, worth removing all unused nodes and occasionally check for nodes that haven't been updated in a long time or have lots of outstanding issues against them.

Interesting. A corrupt file. That is an interesting spin on the scenario.

But then wouldn't it be predictable? I use a node, it is invoked at regular intervals and so would predictably fail?

I will try to get time to go through and remove unused nodes. It is just I sometimes get excited and try writing new things and may use other nodes and so they get adopted.

As time goes on, I work them out of the flow and may forget to delete them.
