Modbustcp vs modbus?

I read modbus (TCP) plc's addresses through modbustcp contrib. I put the IP address, the port and I read registers. Fine (except some time-out errors).

I installed also the modbus contrib and it seems that I can reach also TCP units with this method.

I need to collect about 60-70 registers, transform them and send them through MQTT

Is is an advantage to use one contrib or another ?
