The msg-side node displays beside it a value in KB/hr and the msg object shows
Am I correct in understanding that the values in the object are in Bytes ?
I don't know and the help doesn't make it clear, however how does that number compare to the displayed KB/Hr number ?
i.e. if the totalMsgSize / 1024 = KB/hr number then it is bytes 
Yes, the numbers support the notion that the output is in Bytes
totalMsgSize: 196960 and the text beside the node shows 192KB/hr
But this is not clear from the documentaion I could find.
Not sure which node you are referring to but if something is lacking in a contributed node, you would generally raise an issue - assuming the author has published a GitHub link. You might even clone the node, make some improvements and submit a PR to the author if you were feeling kind.
