I have to shut down Node-RED in order to disconnect Node-RED from the port for access to other software in order to configure devices physically on the serial port. Other options include physically disconnecting and connect to an open port, configure and then physically reconnect to the port Node-RED has been programmed for. There should be an option, message for the port to either fully automatically connect or with flow data enable connection and then also enable disconnecting without having to shut down Node-RED.
