Hi Node-RED folks! ![]()
We're researchers at Saarland University, and we suspect this community will immediately get what we're building.
You know the feeling of wiring up a flow, watching messages move through the nodes, and dropping in a debug node when something looks off? Now think about AI agents (the ChatGPT-agent kind): you hand them a multi-step task, they do something across documents, spreadsheets, and web services — and all you get back is the final result. No flow view. No debug panel. No way to see which step went wrong or to rerun just that part.
In our study, you'll try a new interactive system that turns an AI agent's hidden run into exactly what's missing: a visual workflow graph you can inspect, edit, and partially rerun — watch the agent work, trace each step it took, see how data moved between services, spot errors, tweak the workflow, and adapt it for a new task. If you've ever debugged a flow by following the wires, you already have exactly the mindset we're looking for.
Who we're looking for — hands-on experience with at least one of:
- Flow/workflow automation tools: Node-RED, n8n, Zapier, or similar
- AI agents: ChatGPT Agent/Operator, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Claude Cowork, or similar
