what do we have to use to store a text value in one of two files based on the value? split or switch node?

You can use a Switch with two outputs, sending the data to one or the other, but if possible it would be better to specify the filename in the message, then you only need one File node.

I will move this to the General category as Creating Nodes is about developing new node types.
