I just updated Pi-hole on my pi4 running Buster. It originally failed and this was in the output
If you wish to attempt to continue anyway, you can try one of the following commands to skip this check:
e.g: If you are seeing this message on a fresh install, you can run:
curl -sSL https://install.pi-hole.net | sudo PIHOLE_SKIP_OS_CHECK=true bash
If you are seeing this message after having run pihole -up:
sudo PIHOLE_SKIP_OS_CHECK=true pihole -r
(In this case, your previous run of pihole -up will have already updated the local repository)
so I ran sudo PIHOLE_SKIP_OS_CHECK=true pihole -r and it updated with no error and updated me to v5.18.3
I won't flood you with the stuff on the page, but as said: It is vague.
But if/when you go to install it and you have BUSTER, it fails/exits saying that OS is not supported any more.
But from a post I found:
The documentation is a bit outdated. Rasbian OS 10 is based on Debian 10 which is EOL for almost 4 months now.
endoflife.date
Debian 1
Check end-of-life, release policy and support schedule for Debian.
you should consider updating to RasbianOS 12.
It seems you are missing it too.
Searching the thread for that word, the only previous uses are @zenofmud saying that he successfully updated pihole on buster.
Originally the thread was me asking about how to parse the data from it's database to look at trends.
While looking I was pointed to some links, one thing and another.
I noticed that there was an update and tried to update it to the latest.
(Outside the scope of what I was asking - yes.)
And in post 5 I said that BUSTER is no longer supported.
YOU then replied with a reply that didn't help and then continued arguing (maybe not the best word) that it shouldn't matter, or you couldn't find where that was said.
(How was that helping when I had stated the fact that the people who WROTE Pi hole said is it no longer supported?)
Other people I know have got away with updating with BUSTER too. As have people here.
But it is all a matter of timing.
They were lucky and got in before the changes took place.
I am not lucky. So unless I do the trick suggested by @zenofmud to bypass the OS checking.
But as I said, in other threads: The SD card was destroyed. DO NOT ASK ME FOR DETAILS.
So I have to make up MY MIND what I do.
Just now I shall endure the splinters up my backside and think more about my next steps.
Because you had not said you were trying to upgrade, so provided pi-hole was still running ok then the fact that the latest version is not compatible did not matter with respect to the question you were asking (about accessing the logs).
It isn't a trick, it is a suggestion from the official upgrade script.
