How do I reset the password

When I click the button for Code Red

How do I re set the password in Code Red. When within the online portal or from anywhere. When in the Portal, I click the big Code-red button and it ask for user password. I put all the ones I have or know non of work. I have it in the “Saved password” Chrome but it comes up with multiple passwords/logins and again none work . When I look Non say Code red but Victronenergy? I did try to disable the Code Red and re enable it but that did not seem to work maybe it was open somewhere else?

My remembered password show no Codered just victronenergy. But it show Codered ?my phone number my email and my login as Solarking from Github I believe where all in that remembered password.
In the end I am trying to control the battery usage from the RaspberryPi and a few switchs and some other components. But first just trying to get everything on and working.

none will allow me to reset my password to something that will let me open the program when I press it from within the online portal. I have been to the webpage like this one I am writing this in so I figured there would be a way from here,

Note. I have Windows for my main machine. But I also have it on Andriod phone and tablet which I switch back and forth but they all see different things when it comes to BT stuff. The Pi unit is plugged into the network so it should be Ethernet but often shows bad reception. Even a foot away from the device. It seems there is conflict I just cant pin it down. But could it be on to many systems and it is not showing the same thing. Is that maybe the problem?

Thanks

Mikael

Welcome to the forum solarking25!

When you say ‘Code Red’ do you mean Node-red or are you using a version of node-red provided by Victronenergy or some other provider?

If you are talking about node-red, what device do you have it installed on?

What version of node-red are you using?

You say you have a pi plugged into your network but it has bad reception what do you mean? Do you mean that you try to access node-red on the pi from your other devices and are not getting connected? If that is the case, you might have a bad cable or an issue with your router. Or do you have Wi-Fi enabled on the pi and you are using that connection.

Do you mean this ?

can you not go to passwords list in chrome and recover the same ?

if you open this page, and search for your IP in the search bar, you should be able to see them

i see that you have already tried that, sorry please ignore.

Yes of course I do that some times Node Red. Thanks for the part about the Wifi. It is plugged into an extended network, Or I have a Ethernet line to a Roter inside connected to a cable box. From that there is a Ethernet cable into my studio and the Windows Machine which is connected to a roter and that has a Ethernet connection to my Rasspberry Pi with The VenusOS SSD card and software running.

It might need to be said that the RasspberryPi and the Venus are loaded from different SSD cards and I have to put a different card in with the VenusOS in to operate the Solar system. I am accessing the RasspberryPi from the Victron app or the online portal but have a small screen at the unit.

While on line or in the Portal on the Windows machine, When I try to get into the Node Red I come to the input window but it does not seem to allow me to reset or change the password or register again and then correct it that way.

I thought I had done it, but when I went back to the screen with the password it did not let me in. The bad reception is with Bluetooth but also it shows less than great reception or the indicator at the top left is about one third of full even with the Ethernet plug in, I dont seem to be able to just choose one to use like the Eithernet. But it would seem if it was on a Eithernet conection it would be full bars connected. Everything is close to each other, 12ft from the Windows unit with the Roter and the Pi unit which is the next room. So even BT should work fine.

Thanks

Not sure if I answered your question I am still learning all the parts of this and programming at the same time.

Is the user/pwd dialog that you are seeing the one that @smanjunath211 posted? If so then you can reset your password using the instructions at Securing Node-RED : Node-RED

What do you mean by ‘the unit’? Remember, you know what you mean but no now else does.

It would be helpful it you drew a diagram showing each device you are using and labeling them with what software is using them and showing how they are connected.

When you say “but when I went back to the screen with the password” I’m guessing that you mean the ‘dashboard’

I recommend watching this playlist: Node-RED Essentials. The videos are done by the developers of node-red. They're nice & short and to the point. You will understand a whole lot more in about 1 hour. A small investment for a lot of gain.

Hi Colin Yes that is the one I believe. If so would I be copying the code from the link you sent into something like and SSH portal. (I dont know what you call it but Putty is the one I would be using. Then log into the root and use a password to get to the RasspberryPi.

I am not sure if I would use Python or nano. Maybe. I am so new so I am sorry for the basic questions. I am trying not to break my set up. I thing I may have done something today that is causing problems so this may have to wait a bit.

Thanks

Mikael

Thank you for the suggestion.

Mikael

As @zenofmud suggested, do watch those videos.

How did you setup the user/pwd details initially?

Do you actually want to use a user/pwd to access node-red? If you are on a home network and do not allow access to node-red from the internet then you may not need to use a password. To disable password access edit the file settings.js in the .node-red folder and comment out the whole of the adminAuth section.

Thank you Colin

Yes thank you for the link to the videos watched a couple or them but did not see a way to reset but I may just have missed it.

changing parts of any file is a bit beyond my abilities at the moment. I still cant find where I saved files. I am learning with this raspberryPi and doing something a bit out of my abilities. Buy trying to control solid state power supply from my RaspPi I have to learn about connecting to solid state of two of the devices which refuse to link via BT . So hard connection and code became necessary. Anything like Lenux and Unix and sub cornels and OS within OS is hard for me to understand. Like how VenusOS is a working system with some but not all of the abilities of the RaspberryPi OS Debian? But Python and Nano sometimes work but not all the commands. So I try to download libraries and some copy and paste of code but that is pushing my luck since half the time I have no idea what I am doing. The good news is I can just re write the Raspberry Pi Os again and start over, but then I have some doubling up of some of the login info I think and that is most likely the problem.
When I am in the Victron Console on my window machine will have a link to Special K and the Node Red the Special K one goes to an new page that has a lot of stuff for boats.? Not sure why but the other just has broken links to the same page.
I believe I had double install or i made an account and then had to redo the Operating system from scratch. So I think it has some sort of dual connection to the Victron app. Then my phone and tablet are Andriod but the computer at my desk is Windows and the Raspberry is well its thing.
To try and answer your question. I just remember installing Node Red and then it auto filled from the info and I had thought it was saved in the Crome app, but it does not match any of the login fills that say Node red but still no saved under Node red just under Victron. So many sub groups within groups. Someone called the OS a NIX what ever that is.
The question was asking how do you reset it from within the GUI app. If no such way exist maybe that could be and add on some day. I thought there would be reset like on many pages that have log/pass activated linked to your email. ("If you cant remember your password click here and we will send you a link to a reset").,

So I believe there is a broken link somewhere. I am having similar problems with other things in my local network not showing up. It could also be that Windows does not see Bluetooth within the VinusOS or Victron app stuff. You can see the Victron app but when in the remote console no links to Victron work. I am not sure if these are connected.

I am having trouble understanding your setup.

Is this power supply a Victron device?
What does it power?
What do you mean by controlling it - switching it on and off from Node-red?
What model Raspberry Pi do you have? What operating system does it run?
How did you install Node-red on the Pi?
Are you using a PC browser to access the various systems?

This set up is in the shed and connected to the grid via a in ground cable that runs to the main house. about 60ft about 20meters.
I have six/100amp solar panels in parallel,
A Renogy 2000 watt inverter with UTS(auto switch's when grid goes down) but with bad BT connection. Will not talk to the other things because it has proprietary programming. One app only theirs and it sucks.
BougeRV 40amp MTTP Solar charge controller (Ok app does not work with others) Has two pysical ports that contect. That what I mean when I say a pysical interface into the GIOP ports on the RasspPi. the Pi is powered via DC circuit board that goes to a 15v power supplied thingy. Sorry cant remember the name.
2 100amp Eco Worthy Battey's in parallel Which go through the Smart shunt to the
RaspberryPi 4b connected via USB from the BMS712 VE bus from a Victron Smart Shunt this connects into the raspPi with the VenusOS on the SD card. (which means programing is limited to stuff from Python and nano both limited programming with issues withing the VenusOS. Some folks on Github and Node Red are doing this kind of thing. But mostly I just cant get the Node red to give me a new pass word that is all.
But ultimately I have switch's that can be connected to the GIOP port on the Pi and get info into the VenusOS that it understand and can make into GUI buttons that can then be added to The GUI that is a controller for the my Solar system. Or I can control it Online via a portal on my Computer or via a SSH portal using the IP address and something like PUTTY that just another way to log in probably my tablet
the rest is background info. but happy to give it if that will help.
I am accessing the site from the Windows machine.

Yes i am using RasoberryPi 4b. Debian is the OS but it then has VenusOS on a separate SD card. This runs like a sub cornel or a NIX which I don't fully understand. Within Venus app you can control some things that are not Victron hardware. The app allows you to integrate other Solar Chargers and Inverters and show visual approximation's of what their numbers look like. But I want to turn the power from charging to Grid or to charging the battiers via the App within venusOS from the Pi unit that is controling screen and in some cases alarms for low voltage and fully charged.
For me both the Inverter and the Solar Charger have BT apps that work ok. but they are proprietary and leave a lot of room for improvement. The Solar charge control has a TTL port and an other Ethernet looking port RJS45 or something but they require code to make sense of the info they have and Victrons VenusOS works well but has to be controlled either by their hardware or you can write code or get it on GitHub. or other places. But it is limited and dangers to my system with my lack of knowledge. So hear I am. Looking for other ways to make code or copy someone else's code
I liked Node Red for its visual element and was looking into making it work with Venus OS since other people had done things like that. But I cant log in after one time. this is why I was asking if I could do it any other way.

The Unit refers to the RasperryPi that is next to the Battery and other components. I used a USB conect to a small screen that i can see the the Victron app. It is just small and hard to stand at even though it is just a few feet away in the Greenhouse section of the Shed. Which is a studio. also. The messy pic show the small screen the Pi the Shunt along side a couple of big Relays and switchs That are yet to be hooked up.

I don't know what you mean by that. It isn't possible to fit two SD cards in a pi.

You didn't answer the question - how did you install node-red? It is vital to know that in order to tell you how to proceed.

OK Thanks for the extra information!

Possibly because I'm not familiar with systems to manage solar panels it does not really reduce my confusion

However, you have repeated that you really want to change the Node-red password.

Me neither, unfortunately!
If the Pi only has one sd card connected - ie no USB SD card reader, then it is probably running either Raspberry Pi OS (Debian) or VenusOS, not both together.

I can only advise how to do it in Raspberry Pi OS.

You will need to know the username and password that you used to install Node-red on the Pi.
If you don't have a keyboard and monitor on the PI you will also need the Pi's IP address (but you may be able to use the hostname) and an ssh program on your PC, or Windows Powershell.

Let me know if you need detailed instructions for this.
