My new side project, testing an HMI concept.

It runs on Debian, uses Chromium as the browser, and Node-RED for offline operation. It also includes a built-in database with a database manager.

on video VM for macOS (Parallels, Apple Silicon) for dev

Changes:

  • Project renamed to fromcubes-panel
  • Adminer replaces DbGate (database browser, auto-login, export/import)
  • Built-in SQL tool (editor with autocomplete) next to Adminer
  • Node-RED 5 with fromcubes-react preinstalled (+ tailwind, assets)
  • English UI by default, Polish optional
  • Signed A/B updates (RAUC): install to the inactive slot, automatic rollback if the new version fails to boot, manual rollback, factory reset
  • Online update check from GitHub Releases (optional)
  • Universal x86-64 USB installer (UEFI, Secure Boot, BIOS/CSM, 32-bit UEFI)
  • Read-only root filesystem – device state kept on a separate partition
  • Improved USB: safe automount, downloads go to the shared folder, copy files to a USB stick, DB export to USB
  • Date & time: timezone, custom NTP servers, manual time
  • Multi-monitor: choose one for kiosk
  • On-screen keyboard
  • Custom Cut/Copy/Paste menu, no deice mode for debugging)
  • Panel address (IP + name.local) on the welcome screen, mDNS toggle
  • Ready for the Apache-2.0 license
