Dashboard layouts and the *spacer node*

I'm still not getting something with the dashboard.

There is a new option for a spacer which can be used to pad out the layout.

This is the layout I want.

Note the red arrow.

If that is not there, the LCD control is there. Not wanted.
So I made a dummy group and added a spacer node.

Yet when I hit deploy, it complains about an unused node. Group (Sorry)
Guess which one.

That seems problematic.

Or is it just me?
