One other thing you should mention to your boss. The standard nodes are supported by the community, but if you write a custom nod and use it in a flow and then leave the company, if any changes are needed, someone else will have to figure out what you did. Asking for help on the forum won't be an option since it will not be a standard node therefore any changes or problems will cost the company more time/money to do.
and finally a feature that is being worked on (but is taking a long time as it is very complicated) - is to be able to export a subflow and turn it into a new node (ie freeze it) - so again if you can use standard nodes... why not
