Did you do as the readme said and add that line to your /etc/rc.local file ? - that would start it at boot time...
next thing to try is type netstat -an | grep LISTEN | grep -v LISTENING
hopefully you will see a line with 8888 in it - or maybe 102.... what do you see ?
I've found the solution: I had to enable the remote GPIOD access in the Raspberry Pi configuration at interfaces.
