TAPO TPlink P100 Smart plug

Hi,

Very new to Node-Red, I am trying to integrate a TAPO P100 Smart plug into Node-Red.

I have installed the node-red-contrib-tplink-tapo-connect-api nodes and followed some basic instruction I have found online.

When I deploy the flow, below the 'Toggle' node appears "Communication Error". I have checked the Username and Password, aswell as the Smart plug IP address however still receive this "communication error".

Can anyone please point me in the right direction.

Thanks,
Jamie

Welcome to the forums @Jamie.Williams

I think that is an old Node - that fell victim to a change TP Link made, and the author didn't update it

I would suggest using this one - which I do, without issue
I also use P100 plugs - and this (new/fixed Node) has no issue for me

Thank you for this updated version. The communication error has resolved, however replaced with a handshake error. I've checked the basic's once again, however continues.

Any ideas appreciated.

Jamie

Yes - That handshake error is due to the old Node no longer working.
you're much off better using the newer Node I suggested.

Even with the new node, the handshake error exists

Oh I see - Sorry!

Have you updated the P100's firmware?
TP Link changed some things a while ago.

And what was needed is a change to the Node (the new one I linked to) and a firmware update (I think), unless another update by TPL has broken it again (but mine work oddly).

Are you behind a proxy/HA that maybe getting in the way with comms?

Here is mine (P100 x 4) all working

Removed my account and my Plugs IP of course

I haven't updated my FW for a while - and I wont after seeing your issue :grimacing:

I believe the FW updated automatically upon connecting with the Tapo App. I'll see if I can revert the FW to an older version. Appreciate your input, Thank you

This is why I block my IoT network from the Internet

Hope it all works out - but seems TP Link may have broke it again - Hopefully not
