Here's a short guide (How to setup Node-RED on a RaspberryPi with remote HTTPS and SSH access : synpse.net) that will allow you to manage your Node-RED installation (and any other containers like Home Assistant, Jupyterlab, Plex, etc) on your edge device while also providing tunnel based SSH and HTTPS remote access.
